Stolen Space – VII . London

Stolen Space has just opened their new gallery space in London.

Reka, TwoOne & Myself were lucky enough to contribute to the amazing line-up of artists.

Full details & pics below

Group Show

12.07.13 – 28.07.13

With a bit of luck, and a lot of talent, StolenSpace has entered its 7th year as London’s primary authority in Contemporary Urban Art. Having started to feel the 7-year itch for bigger and better projects and exhibitions, we have made the exciting decision to move to a new venue:

17 Osborn Street

London E1 6TD

Our new 1400 sq ft gallery space, steeped in local history as it was once a stonemason’s workshop, is still within the vibrant creative hub of East London’s Brick Lane and The Old Truman Brewery. So although we have itchy feet we haven’t moved too far!

In this year’s 7th month, we are feeling very fortunate for our past successes and exciting new beginnings, therefore, for the premier exhibition at StolenSpace’s new home, we would like to introduce a Group Show, ‘VII,’ inspired by this lucky and symbolic number.

Whether or not you are of a superstitious persuasion, the number 7 carries with it a myriad of significant connotations. Since the beginning of time, this number has held a powerful place in theological, historical, scientific and cultural memory. According to the Old Testament, the Earth was created in 7 days, in Hinduism there are 7 Chakras, in Christianity there are 7 deadly sins, in Islam there are 7 levels in heaven, and in Judiasm there are 7 blessings and 7 days of mourning. Furthermore, there are 7 days in a week, 7 colours in a rainbow, 7 seas, and 7 wonders of the world. A recurrent motif in art and literature, this number signifies Shakespeare’s 7 Ages of Man and the 7 notes in a traditional musical scale. The associations go on and on, and the potential for creative investigation is almost endless.

On 11th July 2013, StolenSpace will open its brand new doors to the public with ‘VII,’ a group show exhibiting longstanding favorites and fresh newcomers. With tasty refreshments courtesy of Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen, we would like to extend a warm welcome to our new location, inviting you to share in this celebration of our lucky 7th year.

‘Work In Progress’ – Hong Kong

Last week we (Rone, Meggs & Beastman) travelled to Hong Kong to take part in the ‘Work in Progress’ art project in Taikoo Place, Island East, HK.

Hitting the ground running the three of us had 48 hours to complete a large wall mural/installation each, dine in HK style, drink beers and pose for photos in the lead up to Friday night’s launch party – which attracted more than 1,400 people, a lot of vodka drinking and some impromptu crowd bombing/building trashing! Thanks to May, Lauren, Swire, Cyrcle, Spencer, all the artists, all the Dougs & all the local crew who made this whirlwind, sensory overload trip a lot of fun!

“Curated by Hong Kong gallery Above Second, ‘Work in Progress’ is a three-week exhibition which transforms the loading bay and entire 13th floor of a now defunct office space into one of the biggest street art exhibitions ever to be presented in Asia, which aims to change the perspective of individuals about the artistic credibility of street art. Featuring artists from around the world (U.S., Australia, Portugal, France, England, & Denmark) including Beastman, Cyrcle, Meggs, RONE, VHILS, Victor Ash & Cannonball Press. As well as local artists, Xeme, Mark Goss, 4Get, Pantone C, Peter Yuill, brought togetehr by Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation (YAF).”

INSA has been in Australia for a few weeks now, you can follow some of his adventures here on instagram.

Iv’e loved what he has been doing with his patented GIF-iti technique so when he asked me to make one with him I thought great! until I realised I had to paint the same thing in the exact same place 4 times!

A lot of hard work for 600 pixel looping animation but I’m stoked with the way it came out.

Share & enjoy:

Wonderlust X Rone – Pow Wow Hawaii 2013

Wonder and I just completed this huge wall for Pow Wow Hawaii

Kaka’ako is the name of the area where Pow Wow is located so we thought it would be cool to make a landmark piece with a bit of a 80′s style.

VNA Issue 21 – Rone

I’m very happy to share that the New VNA mag is out and I have a feature.

All the info below:

Very Nearly Almost is proud to release its twenty-first issue. And it’s pretty special being the first to have a female as a cover artist; and who better to take this highly coveted position than the queen of street art herself Miss Van.

Her beautiful hand-painted “poupees” and vivid sexual creatures have been capturing the hearts of art lovers and for years and after a brief hiatus from working on the streets, she’s back in full force. We caught up with her to delve a little deeper into the mind of a lady who has blazed a trail through this macho graffiti world.

This issue is bursting with interviews – from the Ever-Fresh crew member Rone, monochromatic illustrative master Joe Fenton and street art new-comer NoseGo. We also have pearls of wisdom from those who have been on the scene since its inception, like Inkie, photographer Alex Fakso and Canadian artist Johnny Crap who also took the time to design our latest subscriber t-shirt . We caught up with a few other influential ladies including graffiti artist Mad-C and stencilist Amanda Marie, as well as illustrative duo Wurstbande from Berlin. There’s also something a bit different from another duo, husband and wife Dal & Faith47 who chose to interview each other. If this wasn’t enough you can also find interviews with queen of crochet, Olek, and the brilliant Nicolas le Borgne, a.k.a Odö – as well as a look at what’s been going on in the streets of London, Detroit and Japan.

Rone – Vanuatu, 2013

There was no real plan to this I just asked if I could paint this wall and I thought it would be great to get the kids to help. I marked up the outlines and was surrounded by the local kids so I gave them paint brushes and put them to work.

It was hectic with so many people to paint the same thing but it was an incredible opportunity to meet and work with people from a different culture.

Word spread fast about the wall and at one stage we had 50+ people watching us paint, stuff even the local paper came down.

Thanks to everyone I met, and a special thanks to all those who helped:

RonexMeggs – ‘Order & Chaos’ Mural Photo Print Release

In November 2012, Rone & Meggs painted thier biggest collaborative piece to date for the Peoples Market venue in their local hood of Collingwood, Melbourne. Fellow Everfresh member ‘Callum Preston aka Tooth’ produced a video of the murals and markets process which can be seen here.

Sadly, both the mural and the market will come to an end in April, where after the mural is likely to be demolished to make way for future development of the site.

To celebrate and commemorate this temporary artwork, Rone & Meggs are releasing a signed & dated (open edition) photoprint, which will be available from tomorrow for the month of January through Meggs’ COMA pop-up space @ Peoples Market, 64-68 Stanley St, Collingwood. (During Market Hours)

‘Order & Chaos’ Print is 28×20″ (inches) landscape, Durst Lambda 76, on Lustre paper.
Signed, titled, dated by both artists, unframed for $80 AUD.

It’s already that time again with the POW WOW festival kicking off in Hawaii next month.

Meggs started a bit of a tradition of Everfresh guys heading over to Hawaii for the annual paint and general fun times, last year Rone and Phibs also went over and painted some epic walls. For 2013 Rone, Phibs, Meggs and myself will be heading over. The line up of artists for this year is amazing, you can check it out here.

Here’s a little video of last year, needless to say can’t wait to get there and paint a few wall and have a surf or 2.

Meggs is also working on a little something for the event, here’s a preview from his IG.
I’m sure there will be a whole bunch of images to come in the lead up as everyone gets ready, check out @r_o_n_e, @houseofmeggs, @wonder_fresh for updates on instagram.
