Meggs x Steen Jones, ‘Year of the Snake’ Mural

At the begginning of 2013, Myself & Young blood Steen Jones, decided to collaborate on a large-scale ‘Year of the Snake’ themed mural to comemerate the 2013 Chinese Zodiac.

Serpents are one of the oldest mythological symbols, quite often used to depict duality, life-cycles & wisdom, which has made them a interesting recent subject for me to explore.

Referencing these elements of the coiled snake, duality and the ‘sacred garden’ we came up with a composition of hands reaching through flora in attempt grasp and take control of a multi-headed snake. For me this was also reflective of the (2013) year ahead, opportunity & excitement with a great deal of risk!

The actual location of this wall has been somewhat hidden in back-street factory carpark, in the suburb of Northcote, Melbourne. I’ve always liked the idea of pieces being seen by those willing to search or randomly stumble across. So to see this wall in person, you’ll have to do some hunting!

Help Endeavor Snowboards!!

My friends @endeavorsnow are up for the Young Entrepreneur Award in Canada but they need votes to win.

I’m donating this signed photo of the wall I did in Vancouver, shot by acclaimed photog Scott Serfas, plus some other goodies for one random person who votes at www.votejenke.com, regram this, and tag @houseofmeggs @endeavorsnow. Support the independents and #votesnowboarding. Vote everyday until June 11th. We’ll announce a winner on June 12th so get voting!!

Endeavor have supported and represented a bunch of artists like myself over their board ranges for years.
And hell, they might even bring me back to VC to paint the rest of their town if they win!!

Unit44 Gallery – INTO THE DARK – Newcastle UK

I am stoked to be included in Unit44′s INTO THE DARK group show, launching June 12th, The Victoria Tunnel, Newcastle.
This yearly event featuring the finest international artists and the most iconic forgotten locations and the line-up for this show is pretty incredible to say the least. – Meggs

Exhibition info:

“Inspired by the incredible project from New York we pay tribute to a slice of North East England history in the form of our Victoria Tunnel. Dating back to 1842 the tunnel facilitated the need to transport goods from one side of Newcastle to the other during a thriving industrial boom in the region. However it was during wartime that the tunnel found true providence and purpose. During the Second World War the tunnel was fitted out for use as an air raid shelter to protect those from falling shells. The structure would provide shelter for over 9,000 people at one time during times of fear and hardship.

Now the tunnels provide a completely unique backdrop and prologue to a new body of works from some of our favourite artists. Known for creating a story, a scenario, and true depiction of character we have chosen the true dream weavers to bring this show to life. We invite you to pay tribute to Industry, Resilience, and the Human Spirit in the face of dark times.”

This is the first time the space will have been used for an exhibition of this nature, with only twelve participants able to go ‘Into The Dark’ at any one time, we have limited thirty-minute slots on June 12th. Online tickets will be released twelve days before the event at twelve midday (June 12th).

D.O.T.S by Søren Solkær Photography

World-renowned Danish photographer Søren Solkær visited Melbourne briefly this year to document street artists for his photography / book project D.O.T.S. I was lucky enough to be involved and below is the portrait of me he took at my & Steen Jones collaborative ‘Year of the Snake wall’, cant wait to see this collection/book in completion! – Meggs

From Søren’s new website:

“Søren is best known for his distinctive portraits of musicians. He is most recognised as the man responsible for various iconic images of Björk, The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, David Lynch, The Arctic Monkeys, R.E.M. and U2.

All the portraits in D.O.T.S. show artists who work in the public space. It is a book and exhibition project that was started in 2012.The aim is to portray the most significant figures in public and street art both on the contemporary scene as well as the pioneering figures. The project will take Søren to the Americas, across Europe and Australia. The book will be finished in 2014.”

Meggs x Birdman photos – Desert Mission Preview

Over the last 3 months my LA homie and art photographer Birdman has been taking a select group of artists out to abandoned desert location. Below is a preview of my part in the project, for sale which Birdman is soon to release as a series of photos & videos from each artist involved.

This was my first trip into California desert territory and its an environment I was stoked to experience and definately to explore more in future. As much for the beautiful barren landscape as for the crazy roadside diners/buildings/shacks that you pass along the way! Stay tuned for full doco etc coming soon…

Meggs – Lion of Venice – LA

viagra Verdana, no rx Tahoma, nurse sans-serif; line-height: 22px;”>During April/May time in LA, I stayed in Venice Beach, an area with a traditionally diverse artistic community and history surf/skate culture. Thanks to Brandedarts I had the opportunity to paint a wall at the ‘Love Shack’, a well-recognised Venice Beach local-institution located on Lincoln Boulevard. We decided to paint one of my recent ‘Lion’ pieces as a tribute to the culture of the area and I place I consider my homebase in LA.

Special mention to my homies in the Rose Street house where I stayed, known as the ‘Rosebuds’, the inclusion of the rose on this wall is for you guys! Photography by @birdmanphotos.
